Take to the Skies!

Fly a patrol over the trenches and tangle with enemy planes in this set collection card game!

Climb and dive as you jockey for position, attempting to line up the perfect shot. Choose from over 20 different historic aircraft, each with different performance attributes which suffer as the plane takes damage. You may wind up an ace, or go down in flames!

***

This is a Beta game released for more playtesting. Included are PDF files for the rules, stats for 22 different aircraft, plane status sheets and a game board.

Dogfight contains 54 cards used to form the draw deck during the game. Each card is from one of six Attack Sets, as noted by the title across the top of the card: Crossing Shot, Diving Shot, Head On Shot, Strafing Run, Trailing Shot, and Turning Shot.

Attack Sets may have special conditions governing when the set can be played. Before trying to damage an enemy plane, you must collect a number of cards from the same Attack Set equal to the card’s Set Size. These cards are then played together as a Bid for Damage. If the attack is successful, then the target plane suffers damage equal to the Damage Value listed on the cards.

Some cards in the deck have a Defensive Value and can be used to avoid an enemy attack.

The draw deck is also used for randomly assigning specific types of damage to target planes. For each point of damage inflicted, one card is flipped over from the draw deck and the listed damage is applied. The information along the bottom of the card is used solely for this purpose, and is ignored during the set collection portions of the game.

I'm confused. This is marked as a "free game." I downloaded it, however, it and doesn't come with everything needed to play. Do you have to pay $6 to download the cards? If so, why is the game listed as "free"? What's the point of downloading the "watermarked PDF" version of the game if you can't play without paying for the cards?

You can download the cards on the publisher's homepage, probably they forgot to add them here?!

Err...no...don't think so. Went to the publisher's website and it states that "The IPG website has moved to the Google Blogger platform for the time being" but it doesn't give a link for the new site.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
