In the West, there’s only one law that everyone understands; that guarantees a quick and decisive verdict; and that treats all people as equals . . . and that’s the Gunman’s Law!

Not since the inception of TSR’s classic Boot Hill has there been a game that captures the flavor and deadliness of the old West like Gunman’s Law.  Carefully blending the historic with the cinematic, Gunman’s Law recreates the gunfights of the mid-to-late 1800s with an unprecedented mix of versatility and verisimilitude.

Gunman’s Law allows both the solo player and multiple players (either "versus" or cooperatively) to recreate everything from the classic one-on-one showdown in a town’s main street to deadly ambushes. Hire your gun out to farmers being pushed off their land by a local cattle baron, or go to the aid of the town’s lawman who has to ride out to where a group of stagecoach robbers are reputedly hiding.

Part board game, part RPG and great for use with miniatures, Gunman’s Law breaks new ground by using a multi-purpose Fast Action Card deck to determine everything from a shootist’s speed and accuracy, reaction to danger, damage done and effect of that damage.

I'd really love to purchase this game to be the replacement for Boot Hill for my old west RPG needs but with all the special cards I do not see how this could be played online, which is where I would be most likely to be able to get a game going. Is there any way to play this game over Roll20 or some other virtual table given that it uses special cards?

Jonathan, you're right that the cards are currently an impediment to virtual play. It's something we hope to address in the future, perhaps with an app.

John and Jim, it does seem though that while Gunslinger had full solitaire rules, Gunman's Law is not really playable solitaire. Sure, you can play it "solo", meaning you make the decisions for the NPC character also, but a true AI system is not in place (unlike Gunslinger, if memory serves).
I just looked through the Gunman's Law rulebook after purchase, and honestly I do feel like I wasted my USD 55 or so (including shipping), since I expected to play the game solitaire. Claiming this game is playable solo is something of a stretch it seems (unless I really missed something in the rulebook, I sincerly hope so).

Michael, I'm a long time player of Gunslinger and can tell you that it does not have 'full solitaire rules'. The solitaire rules are listed in the optional rules and are referenced in rules section 9 as Automatic Characters

Michael, pages 64 and 65 of the rulebook provide guidance for making decisions for NPCs. In addition, most of the scenarios are staged such that NPCs have pre-determined starting positions from which they will realistically shoot their gun(s) until picked off. There is not a comprehensive AI for NPCs, but hopefully those pages in the rulebook provide enough suggestions to enjoy solo play.

I had "Gunslinger" by Avalon Hill. I loved that game. This looks real similar. What is different and similar of your game and that game?

For Gunman’s Law to be compared to Avalon Hill’s seminal product Gunslinger is a well-received compliment. Of course, as the designer of Gunman’s Law, I have a biased opinion that in many ways my game is better. If I didn’t feel that way, then I should not have released the product.

To answer the question about similarities and differences in great detail would be a very time-consuming task, requiring a feature-by-feature breakdown. However, in general I think a fair response would be as follows:

Any game that duplicates a genre that has been explored in another game is bound to have some similarities; and the closer the games are to covering the same ground, the more similarities will logically exist. Because Gunman’s Law and Gunslinger both focus on combat during the period popularly known as the “Wild West”, overlaps are inevitable. Still, It pays to clearly state that something similar does not make the two things the same.

Here are the major similarities...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
