Tag! is a simple dice-based single combat and skirmish game. It was originally designed for game convention use, where your fighter could be worn like a...convention tag, and pickup matches could be completed in a few minutes with nothing more than three 6-sided dice per player. It is also suitable for LARP use, with customizable characters and abilities to let you do the same sort of impromptu one-on-one fights or small skirmishes.

Tag! on phoneHowever, with conventions being cancelled, it is now something that you can easily play over video chat or at home, either as single fighter duels or skirmishes of up to four fighters on a side. You do not need a deck, you do not need to collect anything, there are no rarities, you just set down your fighters and play. Since the download rules have all the card images, you can load all the fighters onto your phone and use that instead of the card deck!

It is simple, but it is also a lot more than just rolling 3 dice. You have a strong die, neutral die and a weak die, which affects tiebreakers. Your dice can only challenge specific opponent dice, the order in which you act with them is important, as is the timing with which you use your special ability or try to sabotage your opponent's use of theirs. Having a strong opening roll is an advantage, but is not a guaranteed win. It turns out there can be a lot of strategy involved in manipulating the interactions of dice based on value and color.

The basic game is the 8-page rulebook and 8 tarot-sized fighter cards. You will need to add your own 6-sided dice, one each in preferably red, green and black (or blue). The rulebook download also includes print & play versions of all the cards, multi-player skirmish rules and a Photoshop template for making up new cards with whatever art you want. The rules are 8 pages but everything you need to know to play is on the back of each fighter, so if you have dice and the cards, you have the game.

Tag! also has a dungeon expansion that lets you take a party of 2-4 characters through branching challenges of increasing difficulty to hopefully defeat a final evil, with subchallenges, Loot and Experience added for campaign play.

Below is a video of a couple of players new to the game doing one round of a three round match (apologies for the resolution).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
