Cardmaster Adventure Design Deck (2e)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The AD&D CARDMASTER Adventure Design Deck is both an exciting tool for Dungeon masters and a complete game for players. With the Adventure Design Deck, the DM can create tough, challenging group adventures, players can go adventuring without a DM, and even solo adventures can be played, just by shuffling cards.

The CARDMASTER Adventure Design Deck can be used several ways: CARDMASTER Fastplay lets one or several players explore a randomly created dungeon in search of treasures or a specific goal; or, a Dungeon Master can use the cards to create a random dungeon while adding his or her own touches of color and drama; or, a DM can us the cards to lay out a previously designed dungeon as the characters explore it, eliminating the need for mapping and record-keeping.

We (Wizards) recognize that some of the legacy content available on this website does not reflect the values of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise today. Some older content may reflect ethnic, racial, and gender prejudice that were commonplace in American society at that time. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. This content is presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. Dungeons & Dragons teaches that diversity is a strength, and we strive to make our D&D products as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This part of our work will never end.

How many pages does this have, please? There's a version with 445 pages floating around on the internet, which I believe doesn't have the total location cards; I hear it has 99, where it's supposed to have 108. And that there are some duplicate cards in the decks, unintended because they drive the monster and treasure total past 44. It is my understanding that on the version floating around the cards start on page 24 and end on page 445; this gives a total of 211. It's supposed to have 54 + 54 + 108, which is 216. And of the 211 that it does have, I understand there are some duplicates, like 263/265, 415/417, 67/65 and 159/161. The duplicates in the monster and treasure deck actually push the total past the supposed total of cards, which is why it's know that they're not supposed to be there.

So, could I please ask how many pages this version has? Is it the same incomplete version that's floating around in the internet?

* "unintended because they drive the monster and treasure total past 54", not 44.

I agree with Gary.

Likely a fun product back in the day, but the pdf presented here will require some of surgery to make into a reasonable printable item.
Each card is just a separate image which will be tedious and paper wasting to get anywhere with.
My first plan is to tear apart the pdf, remove the card backs and attempt to create a proper 9 card image page.
I might retask the card backs with something useful to add to the decks value.

Then agaijn, I might just study the pdf and completely revise the entire item using the basic design. And just buy some poker decks to draw on.

I realize the download was created from scans of an old product, and I am glad Wizards of the Coast made it available. In these days of 4K, 8K, High Resolution, etc., it's easy to be spoiled by the clarity of the graphics presented in such formats. I sure wish this product could have been updated/upgraded to a better level. The entire game looks as though it traveled through time with some great difficulty. The Rules have some serious bleed-thru and the text itself shows its age. The pages with the deck cards do not suffer from bleeding problems, of course, but they have other conditions coming from the original documents, along with scanning errors such as a couple slightly-slanted cards. Also, the cards are one-per-page and they fill it completely (so down-sizing will be necessary). However, even with those problems, I still think we're fortunate to have this dungeon game available to us once again, and I think it's worth the price & purchase. Thank you, WOTC, for providing it!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
