RU02: The Ruins of Undermountain - The Grim Statue and the Labyrinth Environments

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Ruins of Undermountain - The Grim Statue and the Labyrinth Environments are intended as both an introduction to and a continued exploration to the Undermountain dungeon crawl, converted to 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons, particularly if my PDFs, The Ruins of Undermountain - The Entry Well and Environments and or The Ruins of Undermountain - The Lanceboard Room and Librarium Environments. or The Ruins of Undermountain - The Northern Reaches and Environments or The Ruins of Undermountain - The Western Reaches were used as an introductions instead. These rooms are drawn from official D&D releases that include the original Ruins of Undermountain Box Set, plus some additional rooms that were detailed years later, while the rest of the rooms were designed for my own campaign. This module ignores the changes done to the dungeon in the 4th Edition release of Undermountain, and is designed to be set Pre-Spellplague (roughly late 1379 DR in Forgotten Realms).

This area represents the locales that are commonly explored to the south of the Entry Well (Shield Room). Like the areas around the Shield Room itself these areas are part the central dungeon of the first level of Undermountain that have been heavily explored by adventurers who have left their mark on the dungeon crawl over the years. The DM could provide a crude map of some areas of the area, although I wouldn't make it entirely complete, nor accurate (the later provides a lot of amusement). The DM is encouraged to roll random encounters from an existing encounter table (my own custom Undermountain Random Encounter Tables & Rumors is available on Dungeon Masters Guild). I've also put together a bundle that collects all of my Undermountain PDF's in one place, which includes additional monsters from Trobrand's Scalandicals. All these PDFs, as well as everything PDF I've produced can be found within my EVERYTHING ANDREW JAMES WOODYARD BUNDLE, which sells at a discount compared to the total retail combined price of the all the PDFs within.

The Map provided is taken from the original map of Undermountain, but the room numbers have been altered for the purpose of this module. In addition, I've included a way into this section of the dungeon via the crawl tunnel that runs from a back alley sewage access shaft to directly above the Grim Statue.

This is actually quite good, and if you're using 'Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage" You could use this as a southern 'expanded area' and have it represent the 'missing' core rooms from the original boxed set. I like what's presented here encount [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
