Kangaroo Disco Mania

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A family-friendly card game with a quick playtime featuring whimsical animals dancing in a unique art style. Each game typically takes around 5-15 minutes.

The game is optimized for 4-6 players, but also includes alternative rules with a Solo Mode and a Party Mode (for up to 10 players).

A Kangaroo, Koala, Meerkat, Alligator, Sloth, and Platypus all dance on a Disco Floor in disco-era clothing.

Game Mechanics

The gameplay is incredibly simple but with plenty of room for strategy. Each player starts by drawing cards, keeps a few, and puts the rest in a pile in the center. Those discarded cards are flipped over to create the ”Song” that players are dancing to. The song acts as a timer as well as an extra way to gain points (and keep the groove going).

"Dancing" players draw cards, match and combo cards using their hand and the Song to build up the most points possible, and always pass a card to the next player to end their turn (because you always have to keep the groove alive). If a player can’t match a card on their turn, they end up as an Audience member who spends their turn trying to trip up the active players and keep them from gaining points.

Card Elements

Each card has the name of a Disco-era dance or move, a top row with up to 7 icons, bottom row with those matching icons, a picture of an animal doing the dance move, and a disco ball with a number of points in it. The more points a card is worth the harder it is to play.

The Song

The Song is the heart of Disco, and in KDM it is visualized by cards lined up in a row along one edge of the table/playfield. The first unflipped card on the far left is the Beat. The song keeps spitting out new Beats each round as the old Beat is removed.  However, if a player plays a card that either Perfectly Matches the Beat of the song OR has the same name as the Beat, they are grooving to the beat, add that card to their stack, and can play again.

After the last Beat is removed, that’s the end of the Song. Players wrap up scoring, have one last chance to get awarded with a Beat from the Song, and tally up their total points. Whomever winds up with the most points is the Disco Maniac! After an optional display of their own Disco moves, it’s time to start up a new game and keep the groove going all night!

Playing Cards

To play a card on your stack, you simply have to match an icon from the top row to an icon on the bottom row. They are aligned so you can simply hold the cards against each other to see if they match. If ALL of the icons on the top and bottom rows match up, it is considered a Perfect Match and the player gets to immediately play another card. This mechanic lets players plan out awesome combos where they can keep chaining one card off of the other to rack up points. However, this comes at a risk! If a player ever can't match a card in their hand to the top card of their stack, they have to flip their stack and play as an "Audience Member" for the rest of the game. They can't earn any more points for themselves, but instead they can try to stop other players from earning points. Whether "Dancer" or "Audience", players always have a possible route to victory.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
