The Castle of Sanguine Blight - A Solo Dungeon Card Game

5th of September 1846. Your investigation has led you to the inhospitable Moldavian mountains. Haunted by nightmares and alone, you have arrived at the end of your journey, the isolated Castle Vojvod. As you gaze upon the castle, the home of Countess Elisabeth de Bemeur, you know that the final answers you seek will be inside, if you can survive its horrors…

The Castle of Sanguine Blight is a fast, simple, dark solo-adventure dungeon card game. It is created as a love letter to the Castlevania and Shadowgate video games, Cthulhu by Gaslight RPG, and classic Gothic horror.

Choose between 4 doomed characters, face 30 eerie rooms and 30 blood-dripping events, and acquire 12 weird items that may help you on the way to defeat the vampire and its 9 horrible attacks. Replay and experience a different castle the next time. Or why not use the cards as inspiration when you need a fateful turn of events for your regular RPG session.

Bat The rules are underneath the preview image above as ALTERNATE PREVIEW or VIEW RULEBOOK.

The print-and-play PDF is 34 pages, 10,99 x 8,50 in. Front and back of cards on separate pages.

To play the game, you need a couple of six-sided dice, plenty of luck, and the courage to withstand the fear.

There is also a free A3 poster of the "title screen." Get it here

There is also an expansion to The Castle of Sanguine Blight called Weird Experiments.

How can I purchase the printed cards please? I think it would do well on gamecrafter but I do not see it there. Maybe a bundled version with the expansion included?

Hi Andrew! I recently (some weeks ago) revised the text for my pixel card games, which meant ordering a new proof print for them all. It takes some time to ship the cards from the US to Sweden, but as soon as I confirm the print quality, they will be back here for you to order. Sorry for the inconvenience.

34 pages to print, if anyone else always wonders about that. i wish there was a note of page count for all the games here and all the other drivethru sites. i print games at the library cause i don't have a printer, so i'm always tryin' to work out the final price with the printing cost added in before i purchase (i had assumed 9 cards per page instead of 6, so my count was off!).

just printed it and gonna start making cards this evening. excited about this! and excited that there's the ice lich game. if i enjoy this one i'll already have another waiting to be purchased!

I purchased the deck of cards, but I didn't recieve a link to the rules anywhere, and not seeing one on the page. How do I go about getting the rules? Also got tower of the Ice Lich that I don't have a link for the rules either.

Hi there. If you bought the games on drivethrucards, it says “View Rulebook” underneath the preview image. The link leads you to the rules as a downloadable pdf document. On drivethrurpg the “Alternate Preview” contains the same pdf. Both the print-and-play version (end of document) and the print on demand also have the complete rules in the form of cards. I mention in both presentation texts that the rules are available through the preview/rulebook pdf, but I'll move that up instead of having it just above the Game Details to avoid further misunderstandings.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
