The Realms Deck: The Moon Deck

The Moon Deck is a numerical set of cards numbered -100 to 0 designed to be compatible with the original REALMS DECK.  It uses the same compass as the Wildlands Set and can be considered an alternate wild suit.  The deck also pairs with the Sun Deck. 

NOTE: This set does not contain the standard Poker ranks nor any of the extended ranks of the REALMS DECK. 

The full REALMS DECK includes 16 unique suits inspired by historical playing card suits.  Yes, most of these new suits are actually old and have appeared in decks throughout the world.  The cards are designed to be paired across all four sets.  Not only is each card identified by rank and suit but now also have a third icon; the compass.  This new icon identifies the realm and alignment of that suit.  The pairing for the REALMS DECK includes: 2 Alignments (Light/Dark), 4 Directions (North, East, South, West), 8 Colors (Red, Grey, Blue, Orange, Green, Cyan, Yellow, Purple), and 16 Suits (The Fool/Joker, Ace, Ranks 0-10, Jack, Queen, King, and an additional (?) rank.)

NORTHERN FRONTIERS- Spades, Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds

EASTERN SHORES- Cups, Arrows, Anchors, Bells

SOUTHERN KINGDOMS- Acorns, Swords, Axes, Shields

WESTERN REACHES- Stars, Roses, Coins, Staves

BONUS SET: THE WILDLANDS- A new wild suit plus 3 new ranks for each suit (X, Skull, Infinity).  This set also includes a double-backed card.

THE SUN DECK- A numbered suit containing cards 0-100.  It can be paired with the Moon Deck.

THE MOON DECK- A numbered suit containing cards -100 to 0.  It can be paired with the Sun Deck.

“I love extended decks but one thing that often bothered me in several designs is that the pairing functionality breaks down once you begin to add more suits and colors.  Games such as solitaire are simple because of the alternating colors.  But what happens if the suits aren’t paired by color?  How do you incorporate pairing with a fifth, sixth, seventh suit?  The Realms Deck is my attempt to extend the classic poker deck while maintaining the matching card functionality of rummy type games.”
