Rogue Deck MTG: Another Way To Play With Magic The Gathering Cards

Rogue Deck MTG: Another Way To Play With Magic The Gathering Cards

It is a time of chaos in Dominaria with all manner of creatures out and crazed with violence. Use your planeswalker abilities and call upon the mana of the lands to overcome creatures and find the artifacts that can lift the madness from the land.

This is a style of games about adventure, chance, and discovery. The Rogue Deck framework is flexible enough, and Magic The Gathering so vast, that a deck can be designed to meet the needs of nearly any audience. Theme as you see fit for maybe dragons, horror, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty , or younger audiences. Also, balance out the difficulty with creature power and toughness to make the challenge appropriate for the participating planeswalkers.

Planeswalkers use the Magic The Gathering five basic lands as sources of mana. Polyhedral mana attribute dice on the lands identify the power of each. Artifacts are mixed in a game deck of creatures. Planeswalkers traverse the game deck batting creatures by rolling mana value dice until they find the artifacts, or until they are defeated by the creatures.

Card and dice layout for players

This document includes two different game play types based on the core rules:

One Stack will have planeswalkers draw from a single deck of game cards and apply the Rogue Deck core rules. One Stack is great for planeswalkers learning the Rogue Deck core mechanics or single planeswalkers who want fast setup for a quick adventure.

One Stack playstyle setup

Dungeon Crawl will allow planeswalkers to wander around a game environment and choose their own paths. The open space layout is similar in feel to a traditional board game or a classic dungeon crawl. This playstyle is a great adventure for most audiences. Even single players can enjoy exploring this game environment.

Additional Rogue Deck play types can be found in the text: Rogue Deck: Standard, found at:

Read the pdf and im enjoying these rules!
It is mentioned on page 5 that you can use non-mtg decks. Is it possible to mix mtg and non-mtg cards together and use it for the rogue deck?

Thanks for checking out the game. I have not thought about mixing the deck types...I like the way you think!
Perhaps if you can align another multi-suit deck with the suits/lands of MTG (mountain, plains, swamp, island, forest) it would work. Maybe align hearts with island, or diamonds with mountain.

Check out the other guides for using standard poker decks or Uno decks. The Rogue Deck framework is the same, just the cards change. If you find a way to make it work, I'd love to hear about it.

I can't tell you how excited I am to try this! No one plays MTG with me, and I couldn't figure out how to play Magic Solitaire, so I was happy when I saw you could play this solo.

Thanks for trying out the game! You are awesome!

Rogue Deck will not be the same as Magic the Gathering, but it will make good use out of the beautiful cards they create. This also sits in the Venn diagram niche of cards and gaming dice. :)

Hope you enjoy.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
