This deck of cards is 52 Horror Game Hooks to Start Your Story. We have created a set of beautifully designed cards each with one horror story hook. 

There are enough cards that you can use one a week for an entire year or use several in a session to really up the tension of making your players choose which direction to go. 

They work great for any table top role play game from Dungeons and Dragons to Monster of the Week, The One Ring or even Call of Cthulhu. As long as you need to prompt a horror story this will work for you.  

IMPORTANT: These cards are horror themed and include death of children and animals as well as body horror.

What is it?

This is a deck of 52 cards. Each card has a horror story hook. The hooks are open-ended so you can embellish the story to your liking.

The fact that it is a deck of cards makes it easy to shuffle them and pull out a new card as you need it. 

We have split the cards into five sections: Locations; Objects; Kids; Animals and Bugs; Festivals, Carnivals and Traveling Troupes. You can either keep them in separate categories and use them for the suggested situations or you can shuffle them and use them randomly.

We also specifically have kids and animals and bugs as it’s own categories so you can avoid them if you don’t like horror involving them.

The sections

Locations – these are plot hooks that are specific to a place and involve a location as a theme. 

An example hook: The harvest festival is coming and so is evil.

Objects  – these are plot hooks that are specific to an object and can take place anywhere.

An example hook: Your new fountain pen writes in a strange language whenever you try to use it. It’s like it has a mind of its own.

Kids – plots that involve children.

An example hook: Children in this town have all lost their voices.

Animals and Bugs – plots that involve animals or bugs.

An example hook: The walls in the mayor’s house are alive with cockroaches. And no matter what they have done to try rid the house of it the roaches keep returning.

Festivals, Carnivals and Traveling Troupes -– these are plot hooks that centre on festivities and unusual carnivals.

An example hook: At the Carnival of Joy you can never stop smiling. Never.

How do they work?

Sometimes it’s difficult to know where to begin with a horror story. With this deck all you need to do is pull a card whenever you want to start a story that needs a little bit of creepiness or horror. Then let your imagination take over.
