Halloween Adventure Deck

This deck was built to work with any system. It is for solo play, but could also be used as idea generation for a group, or GM-less games.

It can also be mixed with other decks like my Magic School Adventure deck! The icon in the middle of the card will always let you know which deck you're using.

If you need a system, you could try Kids on Bikes or the free Witchcraft and Wizardry. They have a similar feel to the deck.

  • 25 cards: Printed front & back or 50 cards with no backs. This is a print-and-cut PDF so you will need to cut out each card, but you can stack them to make cutting faster.
  • Verb/Noun event generator: Use the words at the top of the card to create a random event. Ex: Draw two cards and use the Verb on the left of one card, and the Noun on the right of the other card and you get Explore Object. Interpret that as something you're doing, or someone else, and draw more cards to generate answers such as who is doing the event and what Thing they're looking for.
  • Character information: Names, traits, alignment, and costume/trope.
  • Yes/No oracle: Any time you need a yes or no (and or but) answer, draw a card.
  • Mystery Twist: This is something I love to end my games on so each session ends on a cool twist (unless you're ending a new mystery with each game like a one-shot). It can also be used at any point you get stuck.
  • D6: Six-sided die on the character side with a random roll.
  • Place: A place where something may be taking place, or where your character is currently.
  • Encounters: Things you may encounter (all the better if it doesn't make sense).
  • Things: A thing can be a clue left behind or someone's possession.
  • Trait: Traits on the Adventure cards can be used to describe inanimate objects.
  • Terrible Trouble: This is a seed or catalyst for a current mystery. For "Reanimated," maybe a character sees something being reanimated at their local library which would kick off the mystery for your one-shot or campaign.
  • All the polyhedrons: This has random rolls for all the polyhedrons. Rolling dice is fun, but maybe you don't want to pull them out, or maybe you're on the go and want to keep it minimal. All the dice are here for you!
  • Print-Friendly version: Less ink to print! "Plus" symbols show where to cut to make sure all cards are the same size.
  • Adventure Mat: To help you get started with a game, I've created an adventure mat that will allow you to gather some information on the setting and your character and other characters involved that will take out a lot of headache from trying to create a story from scratch.
  • Tabletop Simulator: I've added files so you can put the Adventure Deck on Tabletop Simulator (TTS) if you like to play digitally. Two files are the sheets required to upload the deck. The settings in TTS to make them load right are, width 100, height 7, number of cards 25.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
