BUILD YOUR OWN GALAXY!

Galaxy Builder Decks: Star System Mats is a set of double-sided mats of inner and outer orbital tracks for creating star systems during worldbuilding or on the fly during a game. Each mat has two solid-line main orbital tracks and one to two dashed-line secondary orbital tracks. On the reverse side is a duplicate of the orbits but adds a feature such as asteroid fields. These mats are designed to work with Planet cards with Planet Trait cards to quickly create settings on the table for your stories.

Mats can be spread out in a row, showing orbits from the system's center to the outermost orbits. Or you can rotate mats 180 degrees and create a center star system point extending outwards on both sides. Mats are not restricted to visualizing just star systems as a whole, but can be used to “zoom in" on a single planetary system with orbiting bodies. Put a gas giant at the center and show all its moon or ring orbits. Zoom in even further to show the low and high orbits for a lone planet, providing a scale to show orbital stations and space traffic in proximity.

The Galaxy Builder Decks Series

Galaxy Builder Decks are a series of system-neutral cards for worldbuilders and GMs to quickly create scifi settings and cultures right on your table. Pair Planet cards with Planet Trait cards or unique locations and encounters. Each deck is designed to work with others in the series to help fully flesh out your galaxy. I created this series for several reasons: 1) as a helpful worldbuilding tool for authors and gamemasters to quickly create believable settings, 2) to boost immersion, appearing on the table as a series of computer display screens, 3) to provide players with a sense of exploration and discovery while you play, and 4) as a modular overmap on the table for seeing where you are in the universe without having to draw circles over and over.

Notable inspirations (Franchises): Star Wars, Star Trek, Mass Effect, Alien, Firefly, Babylon 5, Elite Dangerous, Dune.
Notable inspirations (Games): Stellaris, Endless Space, Master of Orion, Starbound, Stars Without Number, Ironsworn Starforged.

Who Are They For

For Worldbuilders

Galaxy Builder Decks makes worldbuilding easier by placing important information for a star system concisely and visually on a few cards and mats laid out on your table. Pair Planet Cards and Planet Trait Cards and you can quickly lay out many different types of star systems, showing exactly what planet or moon is where and what is unique about these worlds in various categories such as astronomy, geology, meteorology, biology, planetology, and more.

For GMs

Prep your adventure with an overmap for your players, detailing nearby planets, moons, and asteroids. Have handy cards detailing the attributes of each body and how it can cause or change encounters you've created.

During Play

Do your players suddenly need a map on the fly for their journey from the inner planets to the outer system? Place down some mats and appropriate planet cards, along with their ship, and you're good to go. You can even illustrate the movement of planets or comets over time as they travel.

For Players

Players don't usually want a personal map of a star system in front of them, but if yours want to mark their colonial holdings at a political level, say in a war between Houses over some spice or other, then go for it!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
