The Galaxy Builder Decks Series

Galaxy Builder Decks are a series of system-neutral cards for worldbuilders and GMs to quickly create scifi settings and cultures right on your table. Pair Planet cards with Planet Trait cards or unique locations and encounters. Each deck is designed to work with others in the series to help fully flesh out your galaxy. I created this series for several reasons: 1) as a helpful worldbuilding tool for authors and gamemasters to quickly create believable settings, 2) to boost immersion, appearing on the table as a series of computer display screens, 3) to provide players with a sense of exploration and discovery while you play, and 4) as a modular overmap on the table for seeing where you are in the universe without having to draw circles over and over.

Thank you! Cards are currently available in 52-card Decks, 9-card Sets, or 3-card Packs. This is mostly done for physical cards because of shipping costs. Which individual cards were you interested in?

Thanks Jeff, I have long been a fan of the planetary sciences and astronomy. As such, when you introduced Galaxy Builder Decks, I decided I'd very much like to make a deck of nothing but stars based upon the ratio's thusfar observed in our galaxy. To do so would require several class M (39), class K (6), class G (3), class F (1), and one each of class O, B, and A. Hence my desire to acquire large numbers of some and numerous singles. But doing so with anything but multiple purchases could get expensive. Thanks again Jeff!

Hi Ronald,

Sorry, I am just seeing your message. The best and cheapest option may be printing out the PDF card versions and sleeving them in card protectors, as you can print out as many duplicates as you need. Class F, B, and A stars are coming in a Planets 2 deck this year. I wasn't planning on doing O-class, but I could place it in a 9-card Stellar Set I've been planning. Once the artwork for those are completed and released, it would be possible to put together either a stars-only Stellar Set for PDF with all 7 star classes, or a custom Print deck with those numbers and types of stars you requested, though I don't know how many would buy a deck with that many duplicates.

Singular cards are interesting to consider. I haven't heard of anyone selling cards in singular quantities. Would this be for PDF or for Physical cards?

So I will receive a pdf of 9 cards (6 planets and 3 traits) but only 2 cards if I buy the physical cards?

Hi Sarah! The Physical version includes all 9 cards like in the pdf (6 planets, 3 trait cards).

There should show 11 pages (9 planet/trait cards) and 3 cover cards (front and back with instructions).

I released the pdf first and it asked for number of pages, which was 2. When the print version became available, I guess this turned the page number into total cards number. I will update that now to clear things up.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
