This is the third D6 core book I picked up. While I love the previous two (adventure & Fantasy) This one by far is my favorite. The racial templates are great. The Metaphysics is dare I say it (better than the original starwars force rules). Section on cybernetics is great, Very easy to see how its built, Giving a whole lot of builds options using special powers.

Bloodshadows: A Worldbook for the D6 System
by joey m. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/13/2009 13:06:35

I just got done reading through this book. My head is still spinning. Its a very interesting setting. Not sure if its one I will run. More than that though I think its going to be a great resource for a lot of my other games. Stats for undead, Werewolves, and a slew of creatures. I think a lot of elements here are going to port over to some of my own settings and games.

D6 Fantasy Locations
by joey m. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/13/2009 13:01:06

I picked up this one thinking it was sample settings. Its full of actual locations, from hamlets/Villages to castles that can be dropped directly into your game. As well as some rules for designing your own locations. I think Fantasy locations will end up being way more useful than I originally thought it would be.

D6 Fantasy
by joey m. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/13/2009 12:57:24

After getting d6 Adventure I picked up this one next. The layout is even better in Fantasy. While the basic rules here are the same as adventure I was glad I picked it up. The addition of fantasy races and miracles to go with the magic system.

I ran some freeport adventures using this D6 fantasy book. The system runs fast, and steps aside for the action to play through.

D6 Adventure
by joey m. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/02/2009 21:01:18

My only experience with the d6 system was Starwars. Which I really enjoyed. I thought I would give the system another go. I'm really impressed with the newest edition. I'm planning on getting all 3 core rule sets and a few of the creature and location books.

Great to have a die pool system for fans of the bell curve.

D6 Space
by Karl U. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/24/2009 03:52:19

This is a great game.

I downloaded the rules to run a bunch of new players in a generic Space Opera system and it worked beautifully.

Good - Great simple system will support most space opera you care to throw at it.

Bad - Needs a section with all the tables in the back

Brought ships a week later I liked it so much. Worth your money.

The price is pushing it toward 4 stars

Shatterzone Universe Guide
by Jim C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/06/2008 00:17:55

This download is a nice piece of work with fully converted and updated text. It doesn't include bookmarks or a cover.

The setting makes good use of a morally grey universe with no clear good guys and the potential for allegiances to shift at any time. The central Consortium and its major species have various subtle tensions that allow for complex intrigues. It has some baggage of the period in the way of one-dimensional aliens, made-up substances and the half-baked notion of the Shatterzone.

The product includes full d6 Space Opera rules.

Shatterzone/D6 Space Opera: Cards and Rules
by Stefan J. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/23/2008 12:12:39

I played Shatterzone when it first was published (back in the 90s) so I knew what to expect. Here's what it's about: in Shatterzone (like in it's predecessor Torg and it's follow-up Masterbook), players get a number of cards which can be used to enhance actions, "ask" for subplots (Nemesis, Romance et. al.) and generally influence gameplay on a meta-level. If you don't like meta-gaming, this is not for you. If you're not bothered by something like fate points etc., this is the most flexible and fun way of setting your characters "climax" in a gaming session. On the other hand, the game system actively encourages interaction to get new cards (among other effects), so it also makes non-combat characters a lot more "useful" in combat situations.

LIKED: The rules are interesting to read and give you many ideas how to use the cards in a game. It's double-statted (orginal SZ an D6 rules).

DISLIKED: I'm buying a PDF product. Why the hell are the cards not in colour? (the original SZ cards were at least bi-color). And why is there only one set of cards with D6 and SZ stats on them? It makes the cards look cluttered and not easy to find the info you need. In a PDF it would have been so easy to have at least 2 or even 3 sets (if you really want to have a double-statted one).

I really like the Shatterzone universe setting, was not fond of the rules system. This version is dual-statted for D6 Space, which I like a lot. Excellent version, not just a scan.

D6 Fantasy
by Peter D. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/09/2007 10:18:21

A very solid system that can serve as the base for the entire gamit of fantasy settings from low through high to cinematic. Quick, easy and fun with enough detail in the mechanics to avoid the lable of "rules light" but not enough to fall into the trap of other generic systems like GURPS or D20. Well worth adding to your bookshelf.

Septimus Quickstart
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 08/09/2007 09:04:39

An RPG Resource Review:

Distributed free as both a promo for the forthcoming Septimus game and as West End Games's contribution to Free RPG Day, this product launches straight in to a summary of the rich and detailed background to this particular game setting. In the midst of a crumbling and decaying star-spanning empire, there is an enclave of high technology (considerably higher than the empire reached even in its heyday)... but entering it is not only a one-way trip, you also need to use local technology for even the simplest things and that, of course, is under control... and then came the corruption... The end result is a seething morass of warfare, revolt, tyranny, things that might work or might not work and opportunists out to grab control or wealth wherever they can - and that of course is where you are.

After this gripping summary of the situation, there's a brief explanation of what role-playing is (just in case you have picked this up cold and have no idea...), and the basic items you need to get hold of (friends, dice, food..) to play.

Next comes the 'boiled down' basics of the D6 system that provides the mechanics for this game. It's a straightforward game mechanic anyway, and this is a clear outline of how it works that should enable anyone unfamiliar with it to play confidently from the outset. Despite one or two annoying errors caused by sloppy proofreading (fate points change into force points and such like), it is worth keeping to hand as a ready reference if you play D6 System games, or want to introduce a newcomer to this ruleset.

So, on to a quick introductory adventure. Although the rules section went into enough detail on skills and likely roles for you to make up your own characters, four sample ones are provided so that you can both get a feel for appropriate characters for this setting and dive into playing the game as quickly as possible. Each is well described with plenty of detail to enable good role-playing from the outset.

Finally, the adventure itself, entitled "Flight of the Argosy." The basic idea is that the characters are aboard a ship fleeing to Septimus - or the idyllic sanctuary they think Septimus is - and the adventure covers their arrival and discovery of a bit more about the place in which they have arrived. It's a good jumping off point when both players and their characters do not know much about the setting and provides a good basis for further adventures later on. For each event, the appropriate skills and target rolls needed are described, so a GM new to the D6 System will not be at a disadvantage. It's more of a brief skirmish than a full adventure, but ends with several ideas of how you might develop it further depending on what the characters want to do... and as it stands it is an exciting event to draw players in and make them want to find out more about this place.

Overall this is a good - if a bit thin - introduction to both the setting and the D6 game mechanic, and ought to whet the appetite for the full game. Worth trying if you and your group like playing games set in the far future with plenty of cinematic adventures.
