This is a well formatted, easy to use product with a lot of creativity and thought behind it. The art and maps are first-rate. If you are a lover of Howards' Weird Tales pulp stories and a fan of Shadow Dark this will find a welcome spot at your table.

Great work! Fun to see conversions of these super old-school stories into Shadowdark! I got the chance to play one run by the author in person, and it was super fun. Epic good times!

Authors call Howard a racist and sexist, then proceeds to package five of his stories and sell them; picking these five knowing they would not have to remit any part of the proceeds to Howard or his estate.

The Tomb of the Hunters for Shadowdark RPG
by Scott [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/01/2025 12:13:55

Very nice little adventure.
Pros:
Great layout
Interesting map
Short enough for a single session
Good random encounter table
Cons:
A single, boring, trap. It's a zapper in the middle of a room, and it felt video game-y, so I changed it. I also added an alarm trap to the mouth of the cave to foreshadow the adventuring party already in the dungeon.
Very little treasure. I added some hidden items to bring them to 8XP total (they found 4).
The treasure does not have suggested XP values. I would like to see that as standard in Shadowdark adventures. A starting point for XP is nice for the brain.
I'll probably buy the rest of the adventures in the Brund set.

The Pits of Brund for Shadowdark RPG
by Ciaran [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/29/2024 13:04:46

I reviewed and done a look over of this on my YouTube channel here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T36iYFDZVl8

But to start here I am a big fan of Menagerie Press I have I think 6 of your big Shadowdark books including the latest one, as far as "The Pits of Brund" it is an excellent Dungeon/Advenure path even more so for newer DMs/GMs and players as it adds more to each areas and you learn the game better as you go. But it is in no way just for new DMs or players alone, lots of fun can be had in this, for more experienced DMs adding in your own little hooks, making the enemies more challenging is super easy, in one of the dungeons it even gives advice for another side dungeon you can add in at one point of course this can be replaced with anything or add your own stuff if you wish to go down that path. Again a solid adventure I recommend to all.

Woeful Barrows And Other Places for Shadowdark RPG
by Andrew [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/15/2024 17:11:56

Wonderful book. Easy to fit into any campaign, great for a hexcrawl. This book presents complex situations and allows for open ended solutions. Woeful Barrows has nine detailed adventure locations for a broad region. Has tie-ins to the Pits of Brund. Each location is unique with a distinct way it operates. History of the locations is not cumbersome but paints a good picture and provides context.

I'm loving this module. It is a great delve underground, the mysterious and dangerous otherword of the Shadowdark really is shown here. The levels are well planned and mapped, players can really explore without exhausting the material.

This is a most excellent collection of six Shadowdark settings. The maps are beautiful and well put together. The text is colorful and gives the old school Shadowdark feel. Download the free Tomb of the Hunter to see and then you will want to purchase the rest.

Kunos: High Fantasy Horror RPG Quickstart
by Bob V. G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/20/2023 23:45:14

Kunos: High Fantasy Horror RPG Quickstart is 25 pages, and it includes a two page adventure. You do need Savage Worlds RPG (this is a good investment) to play it. To solo this, I used the Solo Adventure Resource : The Dungeon Oracle (Bimler). I did use the six PC characters that are included in this quickstart.

The adventure started with the PCs travelling through Hayden’s Field. The farmers complained that some of their hogs had been taken by a group of bandits. The PCs followed the trail to a crypt. In the first room they encountered four lizardmen (males). The four did not want to fight (they were being forced to) and this was obvious. Yalena convinced them to stop fighting. The lizardmen exited the dungeon. In the second room they found the Boss and killed him.

In the third room, Grim triggered a magic trap and his fighting skill was reduced for 18 hours. In the fourth room they found tools. Next, they had to deal with a locked door. Yalena took care of it. In room five, they found stolen personal items. One of the items was a spellbook. Room six was bandits. Both sides took a lot of damage and the PC Kaj (the healer) died. At this point, Yalena convinced the bandits to surrender. They did. The bandits were rounded up and taken to the nearest town. They were handed in to the local authorities. The PCs sold their loot, got healed, and got a room for the night.

The next day the PCs talked about some of the comments made by the bandits the day before. The PCs decide to go back to the crypt. When they got there, the lizardmen were waiting for them. The lizardmen explained that their females were still in the dungeon and that they could hear a monster down there. So, the PCs went back in and killed The Glutton. They also found two hogs and three of the female lizardmen (one had been eaten). Give this a try!

5e Arms Cards
by Jareth J. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/04/2022 18:44:40

These cards are as advertised, they have the damage displayed as dice of different colors and as written values. along with all the relevent propterties and ranges within reason (i can't expect them to put the special properties of how a Net or Lance works; if i wanted five paragraphs or rules text on a playing card i'd purchase some Yu-Gi-Oh cards). The weapon images are well done, and although some weapons share the same image, with the number of weapons and unique images i'm not going to complain (i actually got a chuckle seeing that the Club and Hand Crossbow were just scaled down images of the Great Club and Light/Heavy crossbows respectively)

I only have two critisisms, one of which is major and the other is minor.

The minor critisism is that the numbers of certain cards are laughably low (which i understand, its a 52 card deck, you've got to cut some corners and honesly i'd have had a hard time picking which get duplicates and they did an alright job choosing which get duplicates and don't, there are almost 40 Simple & Martial weapons). You only get one of each polearm that you get two of is the Javelin. I have spent alot of time learning medieval history and studying these sorts of things for my games and its not even Menagerie Press's fault, its more just modern fantasy representation putting an unrealistic light on swords, but; Polearms such as spears, pikes, and halberds were all much more prevelent than swords (which commonly took a role as a backup weapon), and i feel that you could have diversified which weapons are getting the duplicate treatment; has anyone ever had two players both choose the Maul? has any movie or book had two characters with a Maul? all im saying (and once again, this is just a super minor nitpick, i love these cards.) all im saying is that a second spear or pike would have been nice.

Now, after my small rant about unrealistic depicitons of weapons in modern fantasy, you might be wondering what that Major critisism is. well don't worry, its very easy to fix and will likely make you laugh, as i did, trying to convey this in a proffessional manner; The sling is depicted as a Slingshot, which is a different weapon, you even have it marked as a two-handed weapon, which is of course true of the slingshot, but a sling is a one handed ranged weapon - go ahead check the Player's handbook, it doesn't have the Two-Handed property, you see a proper sling is a strip of leather with a pouch for a bullet (a small stone, glass, or lead ball). one strip of the leather is tied around a finger on your hand, and your thumb presses the other side of the strip to your finger, you swing it around to build up momentum and release the one side of the strip and send the bullet flying. it was a very noteable weapon in history, even the Romans used the sling (as an auxilary weapon).

In conclusion i really enjoy these cards and will likely buy a second set, somewhere in the future, so i can have some extras of the weapons that come as singles in this set. As far as my critisisms go, i wouldnt take the number of which cards we get to seriously, it's fine. the only thing i'd like changed is the misprinted Slingshot on the sling card, as that is litterally the only actual thing wrong with them, every other rule and value is nailed perfectly.
