Maximum Apocalypse RPG Core Rulebook

OK, I am not familar with the board game; I was looking for a set of rules for another setting.

MA's rules are a good d100 system which bears some resemblance to Zweihander/Flames of Freedom. They are sufficently detailed to serve just about anyone's tastes, with the exception of a very clumsy range system that I suspect is a legacy of the board game, but that is solved very easily by a house rule. The board game's setting lies very thinly, so it is an excellent choice to adapt to great settings which have terrible rules, which is my intention for it (Digenesis, in fact).

The presentation is very clear and uncluttered, the artwork is nice.

I deducted a star because the pdf is not bookmarked, a terrible and inexcuseable lack.

I should note that Roll20 supports this game, and is where I intend to employ the rules.

I picked this game up, way back when the Kickstarter happened. Back then, it was just a fun thought to have a resonably priced zombie-setting book, perhaps something I could use for a Scooby Apocalypse-esque setting. Skimming through it, but busy with work, I ultimately set it aside. Little did I know, months later I'd be frantically searching for a good generic survival system with nothing fitting the bill. Enter this game, saved in my old downloads folder, surprising me with every page flip. Now, this doesn't have say, GURPS-level detail in it, but I'd say that's a good thing! You have all the basics streamlined and ready to go, from combat to foraging to repairing. Teamwork is possible, and stealth is implemented by way of an "enemy attraction gauge". You can even pick from a list of traits to, for instance, have your character smell bad, resulting in distrust. There are stats for a large variety of vehicles and weapons. My only real complaint is the fact that nowhere did I find any sample stats for enemies, which makes this less of a core rulebook and more of a player's handbook to me. Thankfully, the quickstart does provide a small set of enemies to begin with. I imagine that it wouldn't be too difficult to homebrew stats for Tremors-style graboid worms and walkers. I believe this system could lend very well to that sort of setting. Overall, I am impressed by this offering.
