Baptism of Fire
by Tomas [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/06/2025 12:04:59

Pundit's books are a treasure trove of information and inspiration. They're fantastically playable, to be played and used in your games, but even just as sources of inspiration and a deep insight into medieval myth and thought, they're fantastic. It shows that Pundit is a historian and a practitioner and philosopher of mystical arts himself.

As a Slav, I love the authenticity and the love to our history and cultures manifest in this book.

I can't reccommend this enough.

Writing is still RPGPundit quality!!! Baptism Of Fire was so well done in every regard that I felt blindsided when I received this book. Many images, including the cover, are super pixelated. Again, no issues with the writing, but it was quite disappointing to open a package and see horrendously lazy layout.

Hi Andy, I'm sorry you had a bad experience with our newest book. Because of the bad public sentiment towards A.I. art, we opted to use real medieval marginalia throughout this title. Unfortunately, some of those images are extremely small and of low quality (some are 1000 years old). I did my best to enlarge them, sharpen them and clean up the edges. It appears that I may not have done as well as I thought. In all honesty, I re-examined the whole book today and could only find 3 images (including the cover) that had noticeable pixelation. Depending upon lighting and the version a person is reading (premium vs standard), a reader may not notice any pixelation at all. Still, if it bothers you, then I'm sorry, and I'll try to do better. Pundit's next book will be about Vikings and will also be a supplement to Baptism of Fire. It should be out this Fall.

Travel across the land, adventure in the wilds, fight the pagans, defend the crown, trade, spread the gospel, live the myths of old. Another great setting with the medieval authentic paradigm, were it is faithful to history but also to the relevant myths of the time. Fantastic world building tools, it was everything you need to build a world!

Another superb offering from the RPG Pundit. I truly believe he is the Gary Gygax of our generation. I have at this point become a collector of his fine work and it is all first-class. From the history and world building to the amazing random tables, truly you have everything you need to live in the world he sets forth. The mixing of myth and reality gives the settings a special immersive nature unlike anything else. Congratulations Pundit, you’ve done it again.

I just received my copy and it's beautiful. I know there some grammar errors, because Drivethrurpg used the wrong file to print from. But once again RPGPundit and Mad Scribe hit this one out of the ballpark.

Magnificent complete roleplaying game system and setting book, authentic and five-star rated OSR-with-a-twist all the way. Lavishly illustrated with appropriate and atmospheric artwork, it's more than just a ruleset. Taking one to an authentic medieval aesthetic, devoid of contemporary politics and identity dysmorphia, it's a refreshingly invigorating work where the emphasis is on good, old fashioned roleplaying. And the Holy Warrior class is everything I've ever wanted in a Champion of Law! RPGPundit's magnum opus. Buy it!!

Are you ready to dive into a world where history meets fantasy, and the fate of nations hangs in the balance? Look no further than "Baptism of Fire," the ultimate tabletop role-playing game designed for those who crave gritty realism and epic adventures!

Set in the early medieval period, "Baptism of Fire" thrusts players into a world teeming with danger, intrigue, and untold mysteries. Imagine yourself as a brave warrior, a cunning diplomat, or a wise mage, navigating the tumultuous transition from tribal chaos to feudal order in the dawn of the Polish monarchy.

What sets "Baptism of Fire" apart is its dedication to historical authenticity. Every detail, from the weapons wielded to the alliances forged, is meticulously researched to transport you back in time. But this isn't just a history lesson – it's a chance to rewrite the course of medieval Europe with your own hands.

As you embark on your quest, you'll encounter a diverse cast of characters, from noble knights to fearsome monsters lurking in the shadows. Will you uphold the virtues of Christianity and civilization, or embrace the wild magic that courses through the land? The choice is yours, and every decision you make will shape the fate of the realm.

But fear not, for "Baptism of Fire" isn't just about solemn duty and political intrigue. It's also about epic battles against hordes of foes, daring rescues, and legendary treasures waiting to be uncovered. With its simple yet robust rules system, even newcomers to tabletop RPGs will feel right at home as they unleash their inner hero!

Baptism of Fire
by Duke [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/11/2024 09:22:04

Cool system with some cool classes (and some not so cool classes, Witch Hunter is completely tilted and probably needs a good pruning) and some cool rules (Except for Parrying, that's just cumbersome and weird). If you like OSR games this is a pretty well made OSR game with D20 rolls and everything.

The main draw for me is the character creation section, which is extensive and gives you a good sense of both what your character's life has been up to that point as well as getting you into the headspace of the setting. The setting itself is another main draw as I can't think of any other game that has used this area and region as it's setting. It has just the right mix of historical faithfulness and fantastical elements, though you could easily remove the fantastical elements if that isn't your thing.

A few bad thing: The AI art isn't bad, per se, but it is very obvious when it shows up and it clashes a fair bit with the authentic pieces. Could use some trimming here and there in regards to how wordy the passages can get. The Critical Hits tables (which are awesome and have some very gnarly effects that I absolutely love) are where this stuck out the most as many of them turn into 4-8 line text blocks that probably could have been reduced by half in most cases.

Overall it's pretty good with a few annoyances dragging it down. Even if the system itself doesn't look particularly interesting to you the book is worth it for the setting material alone. So, go get it.
