The Cauldron - The Ram villain deck
by Robin F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/25/2019 16:38:14

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why The Ram is a great villain

The flipping mechanic in Sentinels is a pretty interesting concept, especially since there's a lot that can be done with it from phase 2 enemies (Baron Blade, The Dreamer), changing attack patterns (Matriarch, Omnitron) or just creating a super mode that's much harrder to take down (Gloomweaver, Spite). However, there are very few enemies that the active goal is to get them to flip over, which is what makes the fight with the Ram so interesting.

The Ram is a giant robot that's destroying the city, but it doesn't matter how tought you are you, won't dent it if you're too far away from it! So you can put "up close" cards next to your heroes to make them right up next to this monster. If everyone's right next to him, that's when he flips and becomes vulnerable!

But just because you want him to filp doesn't mean you should go for it right away. The Ram has several targets in its deck, each on representing the weaponry the ram can deploy, some of which can only hurt or be hurt by heroes at a certain range. The Ram also has some self-denfense messures in place to punish anyone who gets too close!

The Ram is a great, strategic fight where you have to position yourself correctly and at the right time to make it vulnerable. It feels like an exhilirating cat and mouse game where you're trying to flip the Ram at just the right time while the Ram tries to stay rightside up. This along with postioning that gives you control to maximize damage and minimize harm, makes the Ram one of the more strategic villains you can find

The Cauldron - F.S.C. Continuance Wanderer environment deck (2E)
by Robin F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/08/2019 14:05:10

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why F.S.C. Continuance Wanderer is a great enviroment

Honestly I've hesitated on reviewing the enviroment decks because they're a bit too much to handle, at least the ones in the base set. Ideally the environment should be a neutral party that hampers both the villain and the hero. That's not to say there shouldn't be enviorments that require more attention from the heroes, it's just that a lot of enviorments both in the Cauldron and sentinels proper can take up too much of your time and resources. And it does get worse in the Cauldron's base set. That said, let's talk about why FSC is actually pretty great

FSC is both unique and good because it's basically "The One-Shot Enviorment deck." Yeah, it has a few targets (which will hit both heroes and villains, so yay) but for the most part when a card is played the effect goes off and then disappears immediately or after one round. For example one card makes every other deck take a card from its field and place it on top of its respective deck. Another one forces all players to discard their hands and draw the same amount. I like this because it's shifting conditions without making you feel like you have to stop in your tracks and redirect attention from the villain to take care of whatever new hassel the enviorment has throw at you every round

This isn't to say that this deck doesn't have those. One nasty card makes it so power activation destroys hero cards, so you'll need to be careful around that. But it also has its share of interesting negative effects. For example one card causes a hero to skip their turn, but makes them impervious to damage. So we gave it to Malichae, which caused La Capitan's attacks on the highest HP hero (Malichae) and the Lowest Hp hero (his Djinn) to waste the villain turn entirely. Then there's the card that makes it so one player has (H) turns in a row instead of everyone else, which is an interesting if you're playing with people who want the best for each other (and you should)

All in all I love FSC because it has a ton of unique effects that shift the gameplay without derailing it. Sometimes it'll just screw over the heroes but other times it'll present oppertunities to get a leg up on the villain. And in my mind, that's what the environment deck should be doing. So A+ on this one!

The Cauldron - Vanish hero deck
by Robin F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/28/2019 19:44:09

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why Vanish is a great hero

Vanish is the quick character who hits a lot of times for very little. Her cards revolve around either doing small amounts of damage or interfering with enemies, with a little support on the side. Her main strategy is to draw cards quickly, then discard to hit multiple targets, though because of the wording you could hit the same target multiple times if you wanted! She also has cards that let her use multiple powers a turn and inflict damage when you use a power, so if you like setting up combos, this is your girl! Her other main use is, as I mentioned, running interference. From cards that mess with the damage the enemy can deal/take or lets her use powers when the villains hurt someone (which gets down right broken in Vengence mode despite the discard cost). Heck, she even has her own "Into the Stratossphere" that's more versitile, but doesn't inflict damage.

She also has some unique support for allies, too. One you may not use that often is an ongoing that can be destoryed for every player to draw to 3 cards in hand. So it's useful in emergencys, but not much else than discard fodder (which is nice). More usefully, she can put ongoings/equipment from the trash into play if the player is willing to take some damage. As far as weaknesses go, she is a discard character, so if you don't have the cards in hand to use her skills, or worse can't get to the cards that let her draw more, you'll be up a creek. Additionally, she hits multiple times, but she doesn't do much damage, so enemies with damage reduction will ruin her day. She fortunately has cards that increase her damage and increase the damage an enemy takes, but it will be a hurdle you'll need to jump

Vanish is a solid hero for dealing damage, strategizing and threat managment. As long as you can keep a conistent flow of cards in your hand, you'll be in the perfect position to direct the flow of the game

The Cauldron - Base set [BUNDLE]
by James G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/26/2019 17:23:17

I bought the entire Cauldron with the expansions and promos; they just arrived and everything is organized nicely in the box. Made it easy for me to move them all into Sentinels boxes. The card quality is a little thinner than the official cards, but only by a little; they are good quality and what I expected. I am very happy with what I got, and the print quality is very good too. So far I haven't encountered any misprints, and even if I did I wouldn't worry. The only downside is the decks don't have their own dividers; but it's an easy fix with how the individual decks were packaged (just write the name of the deck on the plastic). Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone looking to buy the Cauldron. Will definitely come back to this site if I ever need to have something printed!

The Cauldron - Quicksilver hero deck
by Robin F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/23/2019 21:22:26

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why Quicksilver is a great hero

If it wasn't obvious, Quicksilver is an expy of Wolfverine with the powers of the T-1000. This is fiting, since she hits like a truck and is very hard to put down. Her main gimmick is that her deck is full of combo cards and they all have the same effect that you can immediately play a finisher after or hit herself for 2 melee damage to chain another combo card. The combos tend to deal small damage but can stack up quickly (much like Matriarch's birds). Combine this with cards in her deck that increase her own damage or the damage of everything on the field or the card that lets you play combos during the enemy's turn and you got yourself a force to be reckoned with

She has her share of weaknesses, and sadly they're pretty glaring. Aside from the obvious "she hurts herself" thing, her main one is she suffers from "why can I only play one card a turn?" syndrome. Yeah, she can play multiple combos and a finisher on top of that, but you'll have to choose between that and the card that prevents her from hurting herself or that lets her draw more cards. So much like the Knight and Tango One you'll have to put infliciting damage aside for a few turns while you set her up. Additionally she'll need a lot of cards in her hands to consistently pull off combos, and you'll burn through your hand just as quickly. To make matters worse she has an inferrior base power to Malichae, who gets to see the cards he draws before he decides on what to discard. And speaking of powers, she doesn't really have any in her deck. Her only real power is a heal that only works if she didn't inflict damage, so you'll be relying on your cards to inflict damage. Also be careful with her reforming armor─while it does provide her a lot of survivability, if she gets hit when she only has one Hp1 left, she'll be down for the count. So don't rely on that too much!

Despite all these weaknesses, Quicksilver is a very powerful hero that can tear through enemies quickly once she gets set up. You won't be doing a who lot until she is, though, so pair her with heroes like The Stranger to let her get cards out faster. It will take a while for her to get going, but once she finally does just try to stop her while remianing in one piece.

The Cauldron - Doc Havoc hero deck
by Robin F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/23/2019 12:45:12

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why Doc Havoc is a great hero

Finally, there's a doctor in the house! While characters like Tempest and Omnitron-X have some consistent healing (if you draw it), it nice to finally have a character that's dedicated to keeping everyone else alive! He has cards that heal everyone, heal a single person, cards that heal himself passively and even a card that increases the amount of healing everyone recieves (but I do mean everyone so be careful when you use it). On top of that he has cards that let players draw new cards and retrieve cards from the graveyard, and he can even let other players play on his turn. This guy is a team player!

One problem with healers in most games is when you choose to be one, you resign yourself to just healing while all your teammates get the glory of combat. Fortunately, Doc Havoc isn't having any of that! The Doc brings a ton of support from being one of the few base set heroes to have ongoing/enviroment destruction to preventing enemy cards from entering play. Heck, he can even bring the hurt when he needs to with throwing syringes or just getting into a fist fight with an enemy! To top it all off, the Doc has a card that lets him turn the damage he inflicts into healing instead! So you can deliberately hit your allies to give them some extra points

Most support characters in games tend to sit back and only step in to keep the other players going, but Doc Havoc likes to be on the battlefield alongside the other heroes. He won't be inflicting the same amount of damage the Lady of the Woods or Tango One is going to, but he still keeps up while keeping everyone else up too. To end this, I'm just going to quote one of his cards; "You're sure this man has no super powers?"

The Cauldron - Tango One hero deck
by Robin F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/23/2019 11:49:20

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why Tango One is a great hero

As a quick aside her name consued me at first. I thought it was like "The Tango One" but then I realized it was more like "Come in, Tango 1. Do you copy, over?" Anyway, she's a sniper with psychic powers, which is pretty dang neat but that also means you're going to need to be very patient with this hero. She has a lot of cards that increase the next damage of her attack, but for the first few rounds you'll have to choose between dealing that damage or setting up future plays.

Tango One's most unique feature is her Critical cards. On its own the keyword means nothing, but there are cards in her deck that activate some powerful effects if you discard them. The most obvious examples are Critical Hit and Cameflage armor, which increase the damage you or prevent damage taken if you discard a critical off the top of your deck.

Tango One is a great hero for people who like dealing burst damage. Building up her attack over a few turns and then letting her inflict a ton of damage is very satisfying. You can burn out of cards quickly if you aren't careful, and you'll need to skip a few attacks to set her up properly. But when she's ready to fire, you better stay out of this sniper's line of sight.

(I went back and forth on her being a 4 or 5, so let's just say she's a 4.5, ok?)

The Cauldron - The Stranger hero deck

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why The Stranger is a great hero

Not gonna lie; this guy is the star of the base set. He's like what I wanted Captain Cosmic to be. Now CC is fine, but all his constructs seem to go out of their way to only be slightly helpful. I don't like to play as him because he doesn't buff characters directly, except for one of his consturcts that reduces damage to a hero. Well, in a weird case of irony, buffing defense is the only thing the Stranger's runes don't do. His runes increase hero damage, increase the amount of cards a hero can play in a turn, decrease enemy damage, increase damage done to the enemy! And he can play a surprisingly high number of them in a single turn

The weakness of his rune is each one inflicts 1 irreducable toxic damage a turn or they're destroyed. However, his deck also includes 4 unique Glyph cards, each one can prevent 1 of his runes from hurting him and each on has a unique effect on top of that. This is a character will need a highly skills player to keep him from destorying himself, but the amount of support he can provide is crazy

The Stanger is the best support character I've seen in the game thus far, Cauldron or offical. His runes are actually useful, his deck is completely built around getting his runes and glyphs out as fast as possible, and there are very few cards in his deck that you'll be unhappy to see. If this strangers comes to your table, you should welcome him with open arms. You won't regret it

The Cauldron - Malichae hero deck
by Robin F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/19/2019 14:41:24

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why Malichae is a great hero

Malichae is a summoner who plays smaller hero targets that fight back, similar to unity. However while Unity likes to swarm the field with half a dozen or more robots, Malichae only has 4 Djinn, each one with their own dedicated purpose. Bathiel inflicts single damage, Reshiel hits multiple targets, Somael gives damage reduction and Ezael provides healing. This allows Malichae to cover multiple roles for his team depending on what Djinn are out

While Malichae only has 4 Djinn, he can also call upon their stronger forms to increase their power. They even have a third super form that only lasts a turn, but have powers that can turn the tables of the battle if used at the right time. He also has a few support cards for helping teammates and enviroment/ongoing destruction at the cost of banishing a Djinn

If you love bringing out a bunch of monsters to fight on your behave, you'll love Malichae. His Djinn are both durable and effective at what they do, and he can support his team as while as fight off the enemy. And when he comes in with his full team, villains best beware, for the Shardcatcher is out to get them

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why Dendron is a great villain

Dendron is probably the easiest of the base set, but that doesn't mean you should take her lightly! She's a minion boss who will play extra cards when she's low on help. Like Baron Blade she flips when she loses all her health, activating stage 2 where she's play several cards on each of her turns. She doesn't do a lot of harm herself, which is fitting as her nemesis is The Stranger, who also doesn't deal direct damage most of the time. And with only 2 cards total in her deck that destorys hero ongoings/equipment, rage quitting will be kept at a minimum

Overall Dendron is a solid low level boss who will keep you on your toes and force you to play aggressively. She rarely destroys your set-up (unless you get really unlucky) so you'll have plenty of options when she starts to get really agressive

The Cauldron - The Knight hero deck

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why The Knight is a great hero

If Legacy is Superman, then The Knight is Captain America (and they are). But where Legacy is more support and you sometimes attack, The Knight is instead a tank. He has several cards that redirect damage, either to himself or to his armor, and cards that increase his own or his ally's attack and defense. His main cards are his sword and shield, which he has multiple copies of but only 2 can be out at a time, letting you choose between the classic sword and shield, or a great tank with 2 shields or duel-wield swords to deal extra damage

His main strength is he can tank very well and recover easily from destruction effects, and has several cards that lets him draw more. But his weakness is he can't attack as regularily as he can recover, so you might get annoyed if you're an aggressive player. Additionally if all you draw are more support cards, you might just be sitting there all game tanking with no bite. That said when he does attack, he can do a lot of damage with all his attack buffs out

Overall the Knight is a great defender and a solid attacker when needbe. While his consistency is a little lacking, he is a stalwart champion who will defend all in his realm.

The Cauldron - Lady of the Wood hero deck
by Robin F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/18/2019 19:40:41

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a great game which understands how to make co-op fun. However where SotM understands how card games work and makes decisions from there, The Cauldron understands how SotM works and adds to and improves the base formula. This set is worth a buy if you love Sentinels. Now let's talk about why Lady of the Wood is a great hero

Lady of the Wood is a DPS hero, so she'll be dishing out a lot of damage. What makes her unique is that her seasons cards cards reward using certain kinds of damage. For example Spring will heal the Lady for the amount she hits an enemy with, and Winter will let her draw cards every time she hits an enemy with cold damage. Set her up right and she'll be a goddess of damage dealing

Pro Tip: she works well with the Stranger and Doc Havoc. Havoc has a card that makes a hero's damage irreducable, but they deal themselves toxic damage in exchange. But with Spring out she can have armor piercing damage with no cost. Likewise the Stranger has a counter rune so if the runeholder is hit, they inflict Toxic damage to a target. On the Lady with Spring out, she can deal damage and heal herself outside of her turn

Of all the base set Cauldron heroes, the Lady is my favorite. She's a glass cannon with enough survivablility to not make you worry you'll die every round. New players will enjoy her sheer power and more experienced players can enjoy finding the various ways she combos with others. All and all, she's a fabulous character

The Cauldron Adrift - Screamachine villain deck
by Jeff P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/05/2019 18:48:25

Screammachine Review: This villain is actually a 4-member rock band whom you must face, and hopefully, take down before they finishing warming up and really rock out! Mechanically, you have four separate targets, each with around 30 health. Each round a minimum of 1 Guitarist, Vocalist, Bassist, or Drummer card is played from their set list and attached to a specific band member and, when any member has 3 such cards, they flip and upgrade. Cards played from the villain deck also trigger abilities, keyed to Guitarist, Vocalist, Bassist, or Drummer, thus the more “upgrades” a band member has the more harm they cause when triggered. Similarly, when the band is down members (specifically when there are H-2 band members left) they again increase their power, playing more cards and setting off more triggers. While Screammachine has many triggers to track, particularly when Live in Concert is played and all active band member’s abilities are triggered, the way that they slowly ramp up and allow you to breathe easier in the first few turns, makes for an interesting battle. Also, the deck tends to be gentle on character Look forward to going toe-to-toe with this death metal band in the future!

General Cauldron Review: I came late to the Cauldron fan-expansion, but once I found it I picked up all of the cards available on this site. First off, let me say that the printing of the cards was excellent; I noticed no errors, misprints, or damages to any of the 1500+ cards. The art style by Matt Bishiop is excellent in its own right, but also reminiscent of the original game’s style, thus they look nice on the table together. The cost of these cards is high in comparison, roughly 11 cents a card on this site (an average of all of the bundles I purchased divided by approximately 1635 cards,) versus roughly 7 cents a card on Amazon (looking at the core Sentinels game at full price, or 4 cents a card while on sale.) But, as this is the only game in town and the quality of the cards is so high, I really have no complaints and would almost definitely buy a new set if it were forthcoming.

The Cauldron Adrift - Drift hero deck
by Jeff P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/04/2019 20:57:06

Drift Review: Once again, Matt Bishop and Cauldron deliver a unique playstyle for these fan-created heroes. Drift, a character previously seen in the Knight’s deck and promo cards, has time traveling powers, represented by a separate card, called a “Shift Track” in which you track her place/alignment in regards to the past or the future. Many of this hero’s cards have unique abilities that either trigger when she “shifts” in a certain direction, or have powers that differ based on her placement on the track. For example, if Drift is aligned with the past (marked as blue on the track,) she can only use powers marked with a blue diamond. Past-aligned powers tend towards healing, defense, and drawing cards, while future-aligned powers tend almost exclusively to damage dealing or buffing. The deck also has a number of various limited ongoing cards that help her get more mileage out of her time shifts, as well as cards to help you mine your deck a bit for what's missing.

Her play style requires you to consider what you’ll be doing with the hero one or more turns in the future and to make sure that she is either aligned with the right position on her Shift Track, or have cards that will help you get into position. Once set up, she can be used to heal, buff, debuff, or deal a reasonable amount of damage, as needed. In summary, she’s a unique hero that requires some thinking ahead and planning, and a great addition to the multiverse!

The Cauldron - Quicksilver hero deck
by Jeff P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/04/2019 20:38:35

Quicksilver Review: After a few games with this character, I’ve really enjoyed the mechanic that makes her unique. Quicksilver plays the role of a high damaging hero who injures herself in order to string together “combo” and “finisher” one-shot cards to deal high amounts of damage to both multiple and individual targets. Obviously, a requirement get the most bang for your buck is getting lots of cards in hand to allow chaining and her base power, “Discard a card. If you do, draw 2 cards,” helps with this. She also has a number of ongoing cards that allow her to mitigate self-damaging behavior and even one that take damage done by her peers, increase it, and sent it back to a villain. Her play style requires hording cards, damaging/healing yourself, followed by episodes of explosive damage dealing. In summary, she’s a unique hero, and a great addition to the multiverse!
