White Box Gothic [Swords & Wizardry]
Publisher: Gallant Knight Games
by Edward A. [Verified Purchaser]

POD Please? lol this phrase gets overused, but I really think it applys here.

This is one of the best options I have seen from White Box. I actually had the PDF printed from Staples into a small, spiral-bound zine. I only do this for the books I love as it costs about $30.

One of my groups runs DDX, but heavily modde from other games. This book is essential to my DDX, OSR homebrew. White Box is a great system. I have the original White Box the author put out a decade or so ago. Dark Dungeons X has that skill and feat system that feels a little like 3e. Which is why I went with that. I hear there is a kickstarter for a better quality White Box game. If you're reading this, you probably already missed that.

Damphir is my favorite class/race option. More monsters (Children of the Night) and spells (Sorcery most foul) also add more options and a nice flavor. I'm can't wait to look into some of the Ravenloft stuff from 3e to add to this!

Reanimated are great. A great expansion on the Frankenstine Monster tropes.

The curse modifier chart on p 23 is forever in my games!

5 stars! This module gets used at lots of games.

I only wish this product was available in a high quality print. This would make the perfect botique RPG book. I'll try not to write a gushing fan-boy review. I think my absolute favorite part of the book was the Hex Map of the world. It looks fairly well researched. You can tell the author, in addition to knowing a lot about primates, also watched a lot of 70's movies/television.
I have always been a bit fan of the series. I grew up on these shows. Many Saturday mornings after cartoons, bowling and Soul Train came the afternoon movie. Where I watched the whole series may times through the years. This game puts that very experience in my hands again. I always wanted to play a Gorilla soldier. The rules are easy-peasy as is all the OSR stuff. I also like that the book is sized with similar stuff. So it stores well with the zine sized section of my shelves.
Glad to have you back to work Mr Proctor and friends. This is a damn good book. Five Stars!!

Cast of Cards: WWII Wewelsburg Contingent (Modern)

This is one of my very favorite decks in the series of Character Cards for Savage Worlds. Nazi Superhelden and the SS Wehrmacht (literally the SS werewolf with a more literal twist) are two that really stand out in the deck. The cost is rediculious. There is a great bang for the buck thing happening here. The only other deck that is close to being this cool is the twisted circus cards. I love the evil clown. These cards have been very useful. This deck works reallyl well with the Weird Wars 2 setting. Though that book is very expensive as compared to how cheap the cards are. Maybe in the future there will be a SWADE version of the Weird Wars 2 setting. It seems to have been really popular. But that was before I started playing the game. 5 stars! Definately 5 stars. Hell give it 6.

working on owning all these cards. These really go a long way to helping run a Savage Worlds game thats Fast......Furious....and Fun!
i keep them all handy like a kid with a box of baseball cards. I cateogorize them as I find useful with my best cards close to the front.
perfect for learning combat in the game. Face these NPC/Wild Cards off against each other "pokeman" style until your combat runs smothly. 5 Stars I say!!

Battle for Oz
Publisher: Pirate Press LLC
by Edward A. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/08/2021 08:28:20

I purchased the premium color copy, softback cover. I have both positive experiences with softcover rpg Dark Dungeons X from DTRPG and bad experiences with my hardback Rules Cyclopedia.from said buisness. That being said, I would recommend the softcover for this title as it lays flat perfectly in the center and fairly well in the front and back. I wouldn't go with the premium color next time as the color isn't very good. I do like the paper. They should have a premium black and white option.
The book is not very thick. While I don't feel cheated on the content, it is shy of content relative to a thicker book like Mage. It advertizes itself as a Plot Point Campaign. Which it certainly is. It reads like a very good book with lore and story content on the Land of Oz. At the end it has plenty of stats on the races and characters that come up in the story. A rough map outlining the lands is also provided. Here is where they could have added content. I'm big on maps. I like how they laid out this continent like an MMORPG with clearly defined zones and gave us maps and introduce each zone along with the creatures and story that can be developed there. I lije the layout of this setting better than the players handbook of Accursed. Though I like Accursed's content better. Maybe perhaps its the lack of childhood familiarity here that creates the preference. Oz would probably be the most amazing setting had I not seen the classic movie a billion times in my childhood.
I also like what they left out of the game. There are no additional amendments to the Savage Worlds rules. No extra rules for chase scenes, no campaign specific rules had to be added. So there's nothing else to learn. That's a relief. Savage Worlds is a great diverse system. But you can't take a Pathfinder character and port it right into Rifts. Some games like Deadlands, are more standardized which makes sense as that was the setting the system was developed from. The Art is nice. Not Pathfinder Core Rulebook book nice. But nice. This is one of those books that gives me that same feeling as I get when, in August, I think about how great Halloween will be. Great layout and presentation. This setting would benefit from some corporate love. There is enough meat here to launch an entire Savage Pathfinder type release in product and sales. The scope of this work is larger than 200 pages. I'm feeling good about the 5 star review. Ack...out!

Timothy B's review says it perfectly. As for my experience... Today the book arrived. I have been working on my Dark Dungeons X game and I needed more character options. I have the whole OSE line except the new advanced rules. this book, if not the best, the most fun OSE book. Read this and the Advancedd Fantasy Genre rules and you have everything you need to add to your base Old School game.
I read all the stuff the community writes about all the various products. There is a big desire for this book. If you read this, you should conosider purchasing.

I'm a big fan of these OSR Classes. I'm going to plug them into my Dark Dungeons X game. They didin't include the BECMI (Cyclopedic) level advancement chart. So I have to make a 36 level chart. There was another version of the warlock, but this one is much better. This is a class that someone wants to play. I will post any comments about the Warlock.

This book has 2 sections in it. One for Players and one Dungeon Master section. They are backwards in this book. The players section should be first. I love LOVE the Shadow Elves class/race in this book. These Gazetteers are where you got the extra class/races to add to your game. So it's kind of like a man hunt to get more options for the game.

A great piece of history. Completely useless as a setting. But a fun read. Why did they change the covers? Did they think they would sell more if they upgraded the art? Luckily this is one of the pdf's that have the original cover. It's great to see books that don't feel corporate. I'm lookin' at you boobies in the book! But it reads like this was just the scratch paper they jotted their ideas on. Then decided to print it.
Speaking of "print it," I emailed this to Staples and had them print me out a book. It's not cheap, but I have actualy copies of all these books. It impresses the shit out of eveyone. I'm giving this 5 stars/dot thingys just because it's the original edition!

Dark Dungeons X

Ok so I've read a lot of core rulebooks. (a LOT). I have the Cyclopedia this book was originally written to emulate. This book is one of my favorite to read. Certainly the best book I have gotten from DTRPG. It has nice thick pages that smell of freah ink. Its an enjoyable experience. I dont agree with the whole book. I hate what he did to Elves. And Magic-Users could maybe use better weapons but certainly not armor. I don't even like his reason for doing it. Lupines are meh, but certainly not worth losing the Monk! (Mystic, Whatever OK) Ask any player you know who started with the Red Box if they want a (not)Wearwolf or a Monk. Everyone will choose Monk.
Throw all that out the window when you start reading it. This book is slick. It's better than the book it emulates. The layout makes absorbing the material easy. And it is so easy to add material.
There is no rule for 3 dimensional movement like flying or going underwater. All movement is 2 dimensional based. I just added the rules from an AD&D retro For Gold and Glory and it works fine.
The Immortals rules are cleaned up. I think I finally understand how to run that. The mechanics behind Thief skills and Cleric Turning Undead are now streamlined. I like the feeling of symmetry this promotes in the book. I even like the name. I remember those chick pamphlets from the 80's he named his book after. That was a dope move. I'm starting my first campaign next week. Running all the classic Modules fronm yhe 80's. I fixed the Magic-user, Elf and resurrected the Monk.
