I've got a physical copy of this box set, and just finished it today. I've had it for more than a decade, and I finally made my way all the way through it.

Night Below is a fun dungeon crawly romp. Plenty of sword fodder and subterranean politics. Act II is a little mushy, as the adventure doesn't provide very good motivation to the characters to keep delving into the deep, other than the piles of treasure the PCs keep finding.

But it's fun, and it'll keep you going for at least a few months of playtime! It took my group about a year and a half to finish it, playing for 4-ish hours most weeks.

So first of all: I love this box set despite never finishing it in three attempts (the second act is a bit of a slog and requires some DM intervention), I still have players speak fondly of this campaign.

The Night Below is lovingly presented here in basically perfect form, none of the flaws from earlier pdf releases show here. The hardcover POD is a delight and is better printed than my original books, however the maps provide quite a difficulty in how they're split up and bound into the book so I'd recommend purchasing the PDF as well for that and the player handouts. The text is always sharp and clear with proper black levels. Just all around a nice reissue.

I had never run this during the 2e era but I bought a copy last year on POD to run with two groups. Other reviewers are correct in saying that the second act of this three act mega adventure is the weakest. I just dropped random encounters almost entirely to prevent it from turning into a complete hackfest. However, the second book is only weak in comparison to the first and the third and is certainly not a bad book generally. The POD is very nice, with the exception of the maps which are all cut up and virtually useless as they come. Grabbing the PoD copy along with the PDF was the best idea as even the largest maps are compressed to one page in the pdf and I just printed those as and when I needed them.

The adventure itself is relatively straight forward. Some evil force is kidnapping spellcasting and taking them underground. The party work through a series of large sandboxes which are comprised of a large, mostly wilderness surface world in book one, a section of the underdark with svirfneblin, deep elves and other forces in the second, and a huge underwater sea in the third. The players are slowly fed clues about what is happening to the spellcasters which makes for a bombastic, explosive ending. My players in both groups I ran this for commented on the quality of side-track scenarios and mini-dungeons. I really feel that with this adventure there's constantly something interesting just round the next corner.

I have had hundreds of hours of fun out of this module, which I ran using 5e, and my characters finsihed on level 12 in one party and level 13 in the other. I would strongly recommend this.

One of my all-time favourite campaigns. Night Below terrorized sixteen of my friends for a year of high school, introducing them to the concept of a dungeon crawl and acting as a brutal introduction to the world of the Underdark.

Divided into three separate books with distinctive feels, there's a little something for everybody in this epic adventure. The first book, Evils of Haranshire has elements of hex crawl as the party is introduced to the mysterious plot to kidnap magic users. There is plenty of space here for the DM to flesh things out with their own encounters, as well as plenty of suggested side quests to get the party on level for their assault on the bandit camp.

Book two, Perils of the Underdark, is a long string of Underdark encounters that range from ho-hum to absolutely brutal. I think we lost about 20-30 PCs in this section of things. It is a little bit too hack and slash without many opportunities for roleplay or especially interesting encounters, bit it does a good job of getting the players prepared for their eventual assault on the Sunless Sea in book three.

Sadly, my party all graduated before we got a chance to confront the Aboleths and put an end to their plotting, but the adventure remains a favourite of mine.

Epic campaign for 2nd edition AD&D. This campaign module can be incorporated into any fantasy world, there is lots of diversity within and different kinds of encounters. There is plenty of material here to take and add or subtract from. There is hours of gaming fun here to be had by serious gamers that are into details. Some very nice full color art inside, and I feel I have received my money's worth on this print on demand version. Hope to see more of the bigger modules go to print on demand because I can work faster as DM with the source in my hands. Thanks to DMs Guild for putting adventures of old back on the map for modern day gamers to conquer!

before i start this was reported (sadly not fixed). the reason i gave this a low score is because of the fourth pdf, the player handouts. the first three pages are fine however the rest of the document is blank. missing the handouts you need.

While the black and white pages of this module are very crisp, the color maps, particularly the large map sheets, suffer from some very obvious quality loss. These oversize pages are fine for viewing as an entire page at once, on a monitor, but if you are zooming in, or for printout, especially at full size, the quality loss is substantial.

The module itself is an awesome 2e AD&D adventure... and ports quite easily to first edition AD&D as well. Migrating it to 3rd or later editions is substantial work, and would require significant changes to maintain game balance.

If it hadn't been for the color map quality loss, especially on the large poster maps, I'd give this 5 stars, quite handily.

This is the classic underdark campaign. I purchased this PDF several years ago, and found it rather unsatisfactory, with a poor, unsearchable scan, not suitable for printing, and chopped up maps. Im very happy to say that this has all been rectified. The text is very clear, easy to read, and the maps are all one piece, well scanned, and high resolution. Thank you!!

Advice for DMs: Skip large potions of Book 2. The story bogs down here, and much of it was written to get players up to the correct level to face the end of the book. In later editions, you will not need to do this. Also, it's a bit magic-heavy for 5e.

The PDF: is only... okay. It's not really suitable for printing in my opinion, and there is a fair amount of colour leaching on those pages that have colour. The text is eminently legible though.

The Module: again, is only... okay. You can't really go wrong with a super-module to rival the T1-4, A-series, and GDQ1-8 supermodules of the 80s for under $5 bucks. However. an solely in my opinion, this is a product that you dip into for a few scenes that you can transplant into an existing campaign (the aboleth city for example), or read as an exercise in campaign design. (I should add that I've never played it in any capacity.)

Convoluted and a trifle long, still it gives the cahracters a base to operate out of until they are powerful enough to go deeper and last longer. NPC's and opponents are well thought out and fleshed out well, even the Alu-demon. Worth a download if only to mine for ideas of what an Underdark Campaign can be like.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Acceptable<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>
