I'm not mathematically inclined enough to speak to balance, but this subclass is very strong thematically. It actually gives you two sub-subclasses: Thunder and Doom. Each one gives you bonuses to (and extra proficiency in) weapons the deal a specific type of damage (blunt, for Thunder). You also get a spell, and some bardic inspiration uses, that deal a specific damage type (necrotic, for Doom.) There is also a side-bar advising how to hack the subclass to represent other varieties of metal.
