I was given the opportunity to play this larp, and I found it to be great to explore abuse and the ways human beings can learn to confront it. The different characters and their backgrounds make it a larp worth re-running.

Vampire: The Masquerade was presented as “A Storytelling game of personal horror”, but, of course, over thirty years, each group of players has taken their own approach to it, narrating their stories in genres as diverse as adventure, noir, dark superheros, or even hack and slash. This larp goes back to the roots: it’s not only a horror story, but one in which the horror comes from our more inner thoughts, feelings, and desires.

The larp does a great job of depicting the perverse dynamics between the abusers and the abused, but it also delves into the psychology of addiction, and, perhaps most importantly, opens a door to hope by also introducing the will to heal and the opportunity to do it.

I was part of the playtesting and I've had the chance to play this larp twice: the first time as one of the tortured victims and the second time as one of the torturers. As a victim, my experience was a nightmare littered with flashbacks that tormented but also tempted me. The role of abuser allowed me to reflect on the power that gives you a person who surrenders completely to you, the responsibility that comes with it, and the damage that neglecting this responsibility can cause.

Reading the final text of the larp has given me a new level of understanding of the possibilities this story holds. I especially liked the “Other styles of play” section, which allows you to play this story online or adapt it to your Vampire chronicle.

I have had the chance of both playing this LARP and directing it and I must say it is great and works very well. It's not a usual Vampire LARP, as it focuses more in the psychological side of the damage the vampires can do and the trauma that it leaves in the humans, which are the PCs.

A thoughtful look at the damage that vampires cause the kine and how those left behind must recognize and reason with their abuse.

[disclaimer: I'm a personal friend and long time collaborator of the Author]

A solid parlor LARP with very dark themes and very "to the hilt" focus. Very little preparation, the Theatrical stile make it perfect for a game night or a Convention. Suited for seasoned LARPers, Vampire hardcore fans, and as it doesn't rely in the Vampire Lore, good for newbies too!

The Other Voice is fearless to present the Vampire as a Monster, with capital "M" and full-on predatorial mindset. No place for redeption in this game, no punches held: This is the Monster. No matter how much Characters try to contextualice or undertand their trauma, nothing prepares them to face it again.

Like a fullcontact combat match, The Other Voice gives you a round of vicious, powerfull, scaring scenes to jump in, intersected with moments to recover and get air, and moments to just be the audience of other character's horrors (and the powerlesness of watching other player scenes and not be able to intervene is its own kind of horror, believe me), a very balanced mix that helps the game to ebb and flow into the resolution and don't become into a trauma porn secuence of scenes. The different perspectives of how people get their lives corrupted by the touch of a Vampire, how the trauma manifest and develops, and how they confront it is the powerful core of this LARP.

Is a experience that seasoned players would found really interesting, as Kindred usually never give a second thought about the mortals they leave behind.
