Curse of Castle Ravenstein

pixel_trans.gif Curse of Castle Ravenstein Great theme and another unique victory condition make this another great adventure! Playing with the cards is a real treat - the printed oversized cards are very nice, drawing for each results of room type, contents, etc. I really like this style of artwork as well. Slight update to the Magic Treasure cards is nice "If you already have this, roll on the 4AD magic treasure table instead." I be applying that to all of these dungeons from here on out. For this set I would not reommend adding in extra Bosses - you will want to meet these guys. And they go away from the deck so at that point you could sub in a card or three... Also note that the bosses scale along with Highest Character Level to make sure you have enough challenge. My level 2 characters made is out a little beat up and mostly leveled up to 3....

Forest of the Spider Queen

pixel_trans.gif Forest of the Spider Queen Just played through this with new characters and here are my impressions: - The first printed cards I have gotten from DTRPG and the quality is very nice - the oversized cards are a real treat! Not sure what I'm going to store them in yet though. - The goal for this adventure is quite different, carve a path to all four edges of the map, which makes for a nice change and forces you to travel a bit. For an extra challenge, don't allow these paths to be within 4 squares from the corners of the map - that'll prevent you from bee-lining to the corners. - Generating all room content from cards is very elagent. I drew a card for each element until the stack was empty, then reshuffled. Makes me want a crazy full 36 card deck to play the base game with! (Note: Alexy just came out with a Monsters Deck in the time it took me to get this order, it for sure will be in my next physical order...) I did add the two Boss Monster cards to the mix but they didn't show up this game...

Pulp Tarot Expansion 3: THE EGG SUIT

pixel_trans.gif Pulp Tarot Expansion 3: THE EGG SUIT With the addition of the Egg Suit, my Pulp of Tarot deck is getting mighty thick, and I couldn't be happier. Bring on the Suit of Tentacles and additional Super-Arcana and variants. This deck is increadibly fun, and I'm up for any additional cards Mr. Simmans may cook up in the future.

PULP TAROT: WORLD EXPANSION SET

pixel_trans.gif PULP TAROT: WORLD EXPANSION SET I love the idea of expansion packs for a Tarot deck! It's great to have additional Super-Arcana cards, and it's really fun to try to decide between which of variants to use in the main deck. I hope these expansions keep coming. I'd love to eventually have variant options for all of the Major Arcana and Court cards.

pixel_trans.gif The Pulp of Tarot What's not to like? The Pulp of Tarot features fantastic artwork, a sense of humor, and subversive NSFW content. Plus, this deck appeals to the nerd in me from multiple angles. As a comics nerd, I love the underground comix look of the images. As a pulp novel nerd, I love the subject matter. And as a obsessive collector, I love that the deck is ever evolving through variants and expansion packs. I buy tarot cards for the artwork and as a brainstorming tool, so I can't speak to how effective the deck is for divination. However, in terms of pure fun, it can't be beat....

The GameMaster's Apprentice: Base Deck

pixel_trans.gif The GameMaster's Apprentice: Base Deck There's an impressive amount of utility contained within these cards (absolutely crazy for a buck!) - next time I place a physical order I'll probably pick up the Space and Fantacy sets. A nice bonus with the PDF is that it's got both black & white and color versions, and if you just print them on cardstock and cut them out, you have 120 cards to draw from, no flipping! ;)

Bestiary Playing Cards
by Kim L.
Publisher: Alexey Aparin
Date Added: 05/02/2021 04:50:20
pixel_trans.gif Bestiary Playing Cards A nice set of "monster" cards! Why? This is a well-made standard deck of 54 playing cards with a variety of info and graphics for Fantasy gaming fans. You get the usual 4 suits found in any normal deck of cards, but there are 16 "dungeon" tiles among them and 36 "monster" cards and the Jokers are entrance or exit tiles. Each of these cards is *different*, none of this same monster pic in a different suit you might see with similar decks...each is an individual well drawn pic of (mostly) recognizable fantasy creatures. On each card is a "die" roll with a different number. This set looks like it was made to be "system agnostic" so that it can be played with different rulesets. There are no instructions, but I imagine an imaginitive soul could find a way to use these with whatever game they want...including all the usual card games played with a standard playing deck!...

Saloon Fate Deck

pixel_trans.gif Saloon Fate Deck Honestly a bit underwhelming, the numbers and symbols are badly placed so you don't see all the infos when you have cards in hand in a typical spread, and the "sexy" artwork looks like something a teenager would draw.

pixel_trans.gif Curse of Castle Ravenstein I found this adventure to be both a challange and exciting. I will be vague here to preserve the fun for others, I loved the mechanic used to know when the task was complete. I thought the BBGs were great and the overall deck was once again well done. Joseph and Alexey both did a great job on this.

pixel_trans.gif PRIZE PACK - Startup/Gateway Launch GNK The cards and art are gorgeous. The only real issue I have with it is that a few of the cards have different spacings on the bottom for the artist credit so it looked like there was a miscut issue at first until I checked out the preview files. They are correct though.

The Road to Ruin
by Steven K.
Publisher: Hero Forge Games
Date Added: 04/01/2021 16:57:27
pixel_trans.gif The Road to Ruin Couldn't be more pleased with this unique, brilliant card game! It looks amazing, and the design is really smart. Cooperate with friends or go it alone in a modular game world riddled with hordes of walking dead! Basic mechanics and strategy are easy to pick up and teach new players. The rule about discarding any item for a last ditch effort to reroll helps stave off the deadliness of unrelenting zombie hordes. (Don't forget to respawn new threats when revisiting locations!) The cards themselves are really beautiful with great art and flavor text to immerse players in a ruined world. Replay value is pretty terrific with multiple different scenarios and randomized world-map layouts. Although the 'dice cards' are fine in a pinch, I recommend playing with real dice. You can use anything for the player tokens, we generally play with grubby old coins. It's helpful to lay down a tablecloth before setting up to avoid scratching or bending up cards as you flip them ove...

Dave's Caves (main deck)
by Graham S.
Publisher: Dā-Bar Games
Date Added: 03/31/2021 20:57:47
pixel_trans.gif Dave's Caves (main deck) My favorite mechanic of this simple and fun to play game is combat. I have played games where you must roll your combat score or under on a d6 but by doing the number rolled in damage is a new touch. Also i like the fact that there is an instant death card (cave in) so no matter how powerful you get there is always a chance of dying by drawing the next card. That said, the game is very random but allows for some cool combos like getting the genies lamp and doubling your current treasure then getting said lamp again and doubling that for a real high score. The classes play very differently and the game is quick. Hoping for an expansion. thanx....

Curse of Castle Ravenstein

pixel_trans.gif Curse of Castle Ravenstein Being a fan of both Ravenloft and Castlevania, I have a soft spot for any rpg materials that delve into the undead corners of fantasy. I loved Castle Ravenloft. I really like Four Against Darkness. I have been looking for ways to combine these two myself with varying levels of success. Unfortunately, it's hard to collect stats for the monsters unless you buy every book and thumb through them, and currently there are no rules for monster creation or scaling. Thankfully, this adventure has a good chunk of the types of monsters I'd find useful. Basically, it's seven different d12 charts spread out over twelve cards, and then two boss cards and two magic treasure cards. I actually like the art on the boss and treasure cards. I also picked up the Animated Armor card to add to my collection. I do hope to see more of these Dungeon Decks. The format is perfect for 4AD....
